The Constellation for AIDS Competence facilitated a meeting of health Ministers from eight West African countries (Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal, Sierra Leone, The Gambia) who met in Banjul from 20 to 22 June 2005.They adopted a short-term action plan in support of accellerating implemenation of malaria control in their countries (see Banjul Declaration ( en/fr and Action Plan en/fr).
The central element of this regional plan is the efficient and effective sharing and learning of lessons emanating from experiences in scaling-up national malaria control. With facilitation provided by the Constellation, health experts undertook a peer review process discussing their countries competence with regard to 14 RBM key practices (see Malaria Self Assessment Framework en). They then compared notes with their peers discussing the merits of current practices and gaps in their knowledge. The RBM Partnership will use this methodology for the preparation of Forum V to be held in Cameroon in November 2005.
